BCMM April 2025 Progress Report

What's New?

This month, our focus has shifted from raw performance to exploring new frontiers within Bridge Commander. And when we say new frontiers, we mean pushing the game's boundaries in ways few thought possible.

Romulan Campaign Development Begins

After a long pause, development on the Romulan campaign is finally underway again. Several missions have already been completed, though only three have been revealed publicly so far. You can check out teasers below:

NIF Format Experiments

Cordanilus has been experimenting extensively with the NIF format, achieving groundbreaking visual effects. Check out the results here:

These efforts have resulted in stunning custom nebulas, surreal planets, and crystalline fields — all making their way into Bridge Commander.

Project Skybox and EarthFX

A long-dormant dream dating back to the BCS-TNG era of the early 2000s has finally become reality. Thanks to the combined work of Cordanilus (for surface design) and Mario (for the underlying logic), we’ve achieved real planetary surfaces in-game. See the progress for yourself:

Conclusion

Significant breakthroughs have been made in understanding and utilizing the NetImmerse format within Bridge Commander. These discoveries are now being applied in the Maelstrom Mod to introduce dynamic environments — from evolving nebulae to alien anomalies and planetary flyovers.

What was once thought impossible is now being realized. The boundaries of Bridge Commander are being pushed in ways never before attempted. Follow the YouTube channels of Mario, Blackrook32, and Cordanilus to stay updated on progress. These are uncharted waters, and an exciting journey lies ahead.

Live long — and game on.
